A belated Happy New Year to you all.  Hopefully we have seen the last of the snow and term can begin in earnest.

SPRING TERM CALENDAR DATES/SCHOOL FEES 2010-11

These are attached to the newsletter.

CLASS 5/6 ACTIVITY WEEK 17th – 21st MAY

There will be a meeting held on Wednesday 24th February at 3.30pm in the school hall for all parents of children in classes 5 & 6 to discuss the forthcoming residential activity week in May.  There will be an opportunity for parents and pupils to meet Gof Dane who organises and runs the outdoor pursuits for us during the activity week and to ask him questions.  There will also be a power point presentation giving everyone a brief overview of the week.

EDUCATIONAL VISITS

Years 5/6 - a visit is being planned to the “Fleet Air Arm Musuem” near Yeovil for Thursday 11th February.

Years 3/4 are planning an overnight stay to Goblin Combe Environment Centre on March 23rd and 24th.  Letters with further details will be going out nearer the time.

PTA SPONSORED PANCAKE TOSS -FRIDAY 12th FEBRUARY

On the Friday before half-term the PTA are organising a sponsored pancake toss.  This was a huge success the last time we held it as well as being great fun.  The target to beat is 125 flips in a minute achieved by Calum Evans in Year 6 last year.  Your child will bring home a sponsor form with a more detailed explanation.

OPEN DAY WEDNESDAY 3rd FEBRUARY 9.30AM – 7PM.

This is mainly for prospective parents but any parents/grandparents wishing to observe your child/children in action are most welcome.  If you have friends/relatives with children about to start in a Nursery or a Reception class or are looking to change schools in the near future then please invite them along.

OXFAM UNWRAPPED

The amount of £318.82 was donated after the Christmas concerts and from our own clothes day on the last day of term.  With this money we were able to help families in under privileged countries by buying a couple of goats, a pig, safe water, medicines, and food for 3 families.  Thank you for your generosity.

SCHOOL CLOSURE

It should be pointed out that because of the school’s closure last week parents are not entitled to make a deduction in fees.  This is clearly stated in the contract which you have with the school under item 6 ‘Fees and Payment’ on the reverse side of the application form.

6 Fees and Payment

“The fees payable shall be calculated in accordance with the Prospectus.  Each Terms fees shall be paid without deduction or set off before or on the first day of each term by cheque made payable to Ashbrooke School.

There will be no reduction in Fees in the event that the pupil is absent from school through sickness, having been suspended, expelled or because the school is closed on the grounds of health and safety (in the sole opinion of the Head Teacher).  A refund of fees because of sickness is only possible if you opt into the School Fees Protection Scheme operated by the School.

The following shall be included in the Fees;

Personal Accident Insurance, Milk and Biscuits.

The following Extra Activities shall not be included in the fees;-

Educational Visits, Educational Materials listed in the Prospectus, Swimming, Concerts.

Where two or more persons sign the acceptance statement at paragraph 15 of this letter all such persons shall be jointly and severally liable for the payment of the Fees this means that either of you is potentially liable for the whole of any sums due under this Agreement.

Late payment of fees will constitute a material breach of contract and may result in expulsion of the pupil and legal action to recover the fees outstanding.”

It should be clear that if the school was closed on grounds of health due to the recent swine flu alert then no reduction of fees would also be applicable.

I would also point out the second and final sentences of this section.  If you wish to spread the payment of fees then the Term Time Payment agreement should be taken up.  The majority of parents do pay fees on time and I would request that all fees are paid by the end of this week.
