4th May 2010
SUMMER TERM CALENDAR
This calendar is attached. It is always a very busy term so please note the dates carefully.
WESTON JUNIOR ARTS FESTIVAL
We have a number of children participating over the next few weeks. We thank Mrs Hemming for preparing the children for their Speech & Drama classes.
The LAMDA examination results have arrived and a copy is attached to this newsletter. Congratulations to all the children for achieving such high results.
RECORDER ENSEMBLE
Unfortunately we have had to withdraw from the festival this year as many of the children in the recorder group will be away on the Class 5/6 activity week.
CHOIR – WEDNESDAY 19TH MAY at 1.45pm.
We are entering two choirs this year – Junior choir (Years 1,2,3 & 4) and a small group (selected from Years 3 & 4). Parents of children in the choir are very welcome to go and support them at the Winter Gardens.
SUN HATS
Sun hats are available in school priced £3. These are worn on sunny days at playtimes and lunchtimes and are compulsory on school trips. Children who have a sun hat from previous years now need to have it in school every day.
WHOLE SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPH
The whole school photograph will be taken on Friday 28th May at 9.30am. Nursery children who do not usually attend on that day may be brought in just for the photograph. The sample copy will be pinned on the PTA notice board and you will receive an envelope for your orders.
TROPHIES
All trophies from last years prize giving should be returned by half term May 28th to the school office. If the trophy has a plaque for your child’s name please arrange for it to be engraved beforehand.
SATS (Standard Assessment Tests)
The week commencing May 10th is the Key Stage 2 test week. The children in Class 6 will be examined in Maths and English, they have a timetable of the individual tests. The outcome of the tests are a useful guide to the children’s ability. Ashbrooke has applied these tests for many years. The tests are sent away to be externally marked and the results should be back the last week of term.
Children in Year 2 (Mrs Downes class) also take tests in English and Mathematics to mark the end of Key Stage 1.
The week 7th – 11th June will be assessment week for classes 3 – 5. Please try not to book a family holiday during this week.
PTA SUMMER FAYRE – SATURDAY 26TH JUNE
Please keep this date free and if possible come and help! A PTA newsletter will be sent out shortly asking for help in running stalls, donations of cakes/toys/books/games and DVD’s.
This is always a great event but we cannot run it without your help and support.
CLASS 5/6 ACTIVITY WEEK MAY 17TH – 21ST
Classes 5/6 are going on a residential activity week to Hill House near Bridgwater accompanied by Mrs Ducker, Miss Wallington, Mr Thomas and myself. They will be taking part in team building activities, kayaking, high ropes, caving, rock climbing, tobogganing and bush craft activities. We hope we have not already had all the summer weather for 2010 and we enjoy a dry, safe and I know exciting week away together. Mrs Ball will be taking Class 1 and Mrs Kryvoblocki will be taking Class 3.
Due to the costs of insurance and limited interest in the idea we regret we are unable to go ahead with our plans at this moment in time. As well as trying to help you as parents it also has to be financially viable for the school.
TESCO VOUCHERS
Please get your Tesco vouchers in a.s.a.p as the promotion ends next week.
SUMMER CONCERT
Instead of the annual summer concert the children will instead be performing at our prize giving on July 8th.
FOUND
A credit voucher for a local store has been found in the Tesco voucher box – please contact the office if you believe it is yours.
